Global Vaccination Safety and Availability

Committee Description

The World Health Organization is a specialized United Nations agency established in 1948 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Originally signed by the WHO’s original 51 member states and 10 other nations, the WHO constitution has now been ratified by 194 nations, giving the WHO its 194 member states plus associate and observer members.

The WHO’s mission is and has always been to promote good health worldwide and eliminate threats to public well-being. Today, the WHO’s mission is to eradicate preventable, communicable diseases in the developing world, improve public health and safety as a critical aspect of human development, reduce lifestyle factors that lead to increased mortality, and address inequalities and inequities in government health policy.

The World Health Organization is an ideal committee for beginner and intermediate delegates. Position papers are not mandatory but are a prerequisite for award eligibility.

KYLA FLYNN

Director

Kyla is a grade 11 student at Heritage Woods Secondary where she currently holds the role of MUN Club President— Kyla is already looking forward to the introductory iteration of TFMUN! Kyla is passionate about international affairs and hopes to inspire a similar love for global issues in her delegates. In her free time, Kyla can be found at any bubble tea establishment ordering a 25% sweet, light ice, passionfruit green tea (add lychee jelly), playing basketball for her provincial-ranking junior team, carefully curating Spotify playlists, or pressing keys on the piano and hoping they resemble some kind of a recognizable song. Kyla looks forward to meeting you all and directing what she knows will be a committee filled with thoughtful, creative, and engaging debate.

EMILY BATTY

Chair

Emily is currently a junior at Heritage Woods Secondary School and she is honoured to be the assistant director for this year's iteration of the World Health Organization. Ever since her first lunchtime meeting at Heritage, Emily has been intrigued and interested in Model UN and international issues. While she isn't doing Model UN or trying to understand math, Emily can be found learning to play the guitar, cooking/ baking, playing soccer, or misspelling her name on various important forms, resulting in name tags and documents all labelled "emil" or "emaily". As the current vice president for the Heritage Woods Model UN club, she is excited for this
conference - as she is confident that it will be full of fruitful and interesting debate.
